Match Report
Wolves Women started their Premier League campaign with a painful defeat at home to Derby.
A torrid first half saw Wolves concede four goals as poor defensive errors proved extremely costly. Melissa Johnson was allowed too much space down the left side, as she cut in and finished well past Natalie Hall. Derby doubled their lead soon after with a well rehearsed free-kick that saw Sam Griffiths tap in from 12 yards.
Abi Hinton twice came close to pulling a goal back for Wolves but her back-post efforts were narrowly off target. Nikki Ledgister made it three before the half-hour from close range before Amy Perry stunned Wolves with a fourth goal, rifling in a volley from the edge of the box.
A double substitution and a half time team-talk saw Wolves come out much better in the second half. A spell of early pressure saw Hinton fouled in the box, and Selmes stepped up to slot in to reduce the arrears. Selmes then hit the outside of the post before Layla Salter saw an effort come back off the upright.
Derby killed any chance of a Wolves revival when Lauren Steadman was allowed to cut in from the left and fire past Hall to make it five. Wolves continued to press forward however, and Hinton took advantage of a defensive mix up to volley in from 18 yards to make it 5-2.
With fifteen minutes to go Jen Anslow’s free-kick was met at the back post by Hinton, and Wolves had a third goal to restore some pride. As injury time approached, Wolves were once again undone by poor defending as Natalie Reay stole in and fired into the bottom corner to wrap up the win for Derby. Wolves can take positives from the second half, but will need to quickly fix their defensive problems if they are to have a successful campaign.
Manager Trevor Mullings was disappointed with his side. He said: “I was disappointed with the way that we applied ourselves to the start of the game. “We were slow to meet the ball, closing down our opponents and to react to phases of open play and dead ball situations. “The second half started more positively - we started to close down early which enabled us to gain possession and led to two of our goals within the first 12 minutes of the second half. “We continued to create chances but we must put them away, and fatigue and a lack of concentration played a major part in conceding a late goal.”

Match Report
Wolves Women progressed to the next round of the League Cup after taking Radcliffe Olympic to extra time at Keys Park. The first half saw chances for both sides, with Radcliffe first on target, but Natalie Hall did well in the Wolves goal. Jenni Anslow came close for Wolves from a corner, and also put in an excellent ball for Abbie Hinton, but Hinton headed wide.
Radcliffe sent a shot skimming past Wolves’ goal in the 38th minute, but no one could get on the end of it. Then, just 2 minutes before the break, an excellent shot from Amber Quick hit the bar from 35 yards out. Despite the chances, the half finished goalless.
Both sides picked up the pace after the re-start, but it was Radcliffe who broke the deadlock. Their corner ball was headed away by Wolves’ defence, but Radcliffe intercepted the clearance and sent the ball back into the melee. Hall parried the ball to the feet of Radcliffe’s Danielle Salter, who bundled it over the line to put the visitors ahead.
Wolves’ Manager Trevor Mullings made a double substitution, with Palin and North making way for Perks and Cassidy. The home side were spurred on, and after having a goal disallowed for offside, and Anslow’s shot going just over the bar, Abbie Hinton finally got the equaliser in the 70th minute with a stinging volley.
Wolves continued to press, but could not get the winning goal and the match went into extra time. The home side’s pressure eventually paid off in the 10th minute of extra time as Anslow’s cross whipped into the box and Radcliffe substitute Vere could only head the ball into her own net, giving Wolves the lead. Radcliffe were quickly back on the attack, one on one with keeper Hall in the Wolves’ goal, but Hall kept her side in the game with a stunning block. Wolves continued to keep Radcliffe at bay to win the game 2-1.

Match Report
Wolves Women put in a much improved performance against rivals Stoke City, but were hit by a late goal as the hosts took all three points.
The game was destined to be physical and competitive from the start, and so it proved, as both sides battled to dominate the midfield. Stoke broke the deadlock with the game’s first chance on half an hour, as former Wolves winger Jamillah Palmer capitalised on a defensive error to race through on goal and place an effort past Charlotte McElroy.
Wolves responded well as they sought a way back in to the match and thought they had won a penalty five minutes later, when striker Dani Selmes was brought down, only for the referee to wave away protests. Wolves levelled soon after when Jen Anslow took the ball from inside her own half to race down the left-wing, beating her marker before crossing in for Selmes to rifle in a left-footed shot on the turn from 15 yards.
The second half saw more of the same, as both sides toiled under the floodlights but chances were few, as both defences stood firm under pressure. It was a match that would be decided by the finest of margins, and so it proved. Stoke played a ball over the top for Kate Asher to run on to, and her delicate chip avoided the on-rushing McElroy, as the Potters stole a late victory with eight minutes left on the clock.
Even then Wolves had time to come close to equalising, as Jade Hewitt’s long-range shot tested the Stoke keeper. McElroy was forced into a superb triple save at the death to keep out Palmer as the game stretched in the dying moments. Wolves were bitterly disappointed after the game, as perhaps a draw would have been a fair result from a well-fought fixture.
Wolves Manager Trevor Mullings was frustrated with the late goal. He said: “I’m gutted we didn’t get something from the game today, but I’m really happy with our performance given how we’ve started the season. “We passed better, closed down quicker and the girls showed they were up for the challenge.”

Match Report
Wolves Women were beaten at in-form Huddersfield on Sunday, but the game was far closer than the 3-0 scoreline suggested. And it was only with two late goals that ensured Huddersfield chalked up their third successive victory to move joint top of the table.
Both sides cancelled each other out for long periods of the game, but it was the hosts who shaded the first half and got their rewards when Debbie Hastings opened the scoring just before the interval.
The second half proved a scrappy affair and Wolves almost drew level on 66 minutes, when a free kick from Jenni Anslow drew a fine save from Laura Carter to tip the ball onto the crossbar. Going into the last ten minutes the result was still in the balance but goals from Emily Heckler and Kate Mallin secured the 3-0 win.

Match Report
Wolves suffered their worst defeat in over five years as they were well beaten by reigning champions Sheffield Ladies FC at Keys Park.
Three goals in the opening ten minutes killed the game and left Wolves shell-shocked. Abbie McIver opened the scoring before Suzanne Davies grabbed a quick brace as Wolves were punished for poor defending. McIver got her second goal on 25 minutes after rounding Natalie Hall in the Wolves goal. A Carla Ward free-kick made it five on the stroke of half-time to pile on the misery for Wolves.
Wolves improved in the second half but Davies completed her hat-trick on 50 minutes after stealing in at the near post. Amy Beanland made it seven, but Wolves were able to grab a consolation goal following a brief spell of pressure when Emily North’s free kick was headed powerfully in by Vicky Palin. Wolves were unable to add to their tally, as Sheffield completed the rout with four minutes to go, Ellie Gilliat tapping in after Sheffield raced away on the break.
This will be a game to forget for Wolves, who were unable to compete with last season’s league champions.

Match Report
An injury-plagued Wolves side turned in an improved performance, but were handed another heavy defeat at home to Bradford.
Wolves looked more composed, but fell behind to an early Rachel Lee goal, despite suggestions of handball in the build up. Bradford doubled their lead on 17 minutes, when Lee rifled in on the turn after Wolves failed to clear from a free-kick.
Wolves kept their heads up, and Jade Hewitt played in Emily North, but the young winger was unable to beat Carrie Simpson in the Bradford goal. Bradford continued to pressure Wolves, and got their third goal on the stroke of half time, Molly-Mae Sharpe with a stunning effort from 25 yards.
Wolves conceded a controversial fourth just after half-time. Defender Layla Salter went down injured off the ball, but Bradford continued to play, crossing in from the right, where Sharpe headed in from close range. Jordan Timmins-Ray burst through the Bradford defence for Wolves but her effort flew narrowly wide as the home side struggled to create chances.
Having lost both starting central defenders to injury, Wolves were content to try and keep the ball in the later stages, but were unable to stop Bradford from scoring a fifth. And it was Sharpe who completed the scoring and her hat trick 11 minutes from time, racing onto a through ball and calmly finishing past Natalie Hall.
Wolves were well beaten, and need to hope injured players return soon to help them fight for Premier League survival.

Match Report
Injury-hit Wolves side continued their improvement at home to Blackburn Rovers, but once again fell short as they lost 2-0.
Both sides started brightly, but Blackburn came closest early on with an effort coming back off the post. Wolves fell behind on 22 minutes when they lost possession on the edge of their own box, and Katie Anderton raced clear to finish coolly past Natalie Hall. Wolves looked to respond before half-time, but a Laura McQuilkin free-kick wide was the closest they got as Blackburn restricted their opportunities.
Wolves improved in the second half and looked to press the visitors, but they struggled to create chances, and Blackburn doubled their lead on the hour. Blackburn broke the offside trap down the right, and a great cross was converted by Amie Fleming from close range. Wolves refused to let heads drop, and they began to produce some of their best football as the game wore on, Amber Quick going close after breaking through the middle.
Ultimately Wolves lacked that creative spark that could have seen them earn a draw, but they will be pleased with an improved performance.

Match Report
Wolves continue to search for their first points of the season, as they lost 4-1 at home to high-flying Coventry.
Both sides started quickly, with Wolves pressuring early on but they were unable to get a shot away when in the box, while Coventry had an effort cleared off the line. And Coventry took the lead when Marie Gauntlett latched onto a long free kick to volley home from 12 yards. Wolves responded before half-time, when Jen Anslow’s perfectly weighted free-kick was headed in by Dani Selmes.. Wolves then looked to take the lead before the interval but Jade Hewitt could only chip wide from another Anslow free-kick.
The second half continued in the same vein, as Selmes forced a fine save from Susan Wood before Coventry quickly broke away and hit the bar. Coventry struck soon after to re-take the lead, as Helen Dermody finished well from 15 yards after running on to a diagonal ball.
Wolves pushed to draw level once more but Coventry were lethal on the counter, forcing some stunning saves from Natalie Hall in the Wolves goal. Eventually Coventry were able to capitalise on the break, and Samantha Quayle raced down the right, before coolly finishing past Hall.
Wolves almost hit back immediately, but Selmes could only fire wide. Coventry finished the game off on the break, Karen Clough racing away to beat the offside trap and steer the ball past Hall.
The result sees Wolves firmly planted at the bottom of the table.

Match Report
Wolves Women were knocked out of the first round of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup by Mossley Hill Ladies after extra time. Wolves were left scratching their heads after dominating most of the game and creating more of the chances, but losing out to a late goal in extra time.
Wolves were almost ahead inside six minutes when Dani Selmes rounded the keeper, but saw her effort cleared off the line. Amber Quick then flicked over from a Jen Anslow cross, before Anslow crossed in for Selmes, who headed in at the back post to open the scoring. Wolves continued to control the game, but could not add to their tally, Jade Hewitt firing wide when through on goal from the edge of the box.
Wolves were keen to extend their lead, and came close when Hewitt hit the crossbar after a spell of pressure. Jordan Timmins-Ray volleyed narrowly over soon after. Mossley began to compose themselves after surviving the early onslaught, keeping the ball in the Wolves half, but were unable to overly trouble Natalie Hall.
Wolves should have put the game out of sight with 15 minutes to go, but Timmins-Ray fired off the upright, before Selmes had a goal controversially ruled out for offside. Inevitably, Wolves were made to pay for their profligacy as Mossley equalised with 12 minutes remaining. A ball over the top was not cleared, and the Mossley striker finished well into the corner of the net. There was late drama in normal time as Hall was required to rush out and save with her face to deny the home side, before Quick had an effort cleared off the line at the other end.
Extra time started well for Wolves, as substitute Courtney Cassidy raced down the left, beating two players before crossing for Selmes who poked in from close range for her second of the game. Sadly Cassidy was forced off a minute later, as she suffered a serious knee injury which saw her taken to hospital, and she will play no further part in the season.
A soft free-kick award saw Mossley equalise, thanks to a fierce effort rifling in off the post. Wolves pushed for a winning goal, but were punished for poor defending when a Mossley player was allowed to turn in the box and finish well into the corner of the net to win the tie for the home side. Wolves applied pressure late on, but were left to rue their luck when Selmes hit the post with a header before Laura McQuilkin hit the bar with a long range shot.
On another day, Wolves might have won by a comfortable margin, but a combination of poor defending and wasteful finishing saw them exit the cup in the first round.

Match Report
Wolves continue their search for their first points of the season, as they lost 2-0 away at highflying Coventry.
Coventry dominated from the outset, but were twice denied early on by superb Natalie Hall saves. Wolves defended bravely to keep the hosts at bay, Natalie Widdal throwing herself in front of an effort to keep the score level, as Coventry looked to take advantage of their superior play.
The Sky Blues took the lead after half an hour when a long ball into the Wolves box was controlled by Sam Quayle, who laid the ball off to an unmarked Katie Lowder to fire in from ten yards. The hosts doubled their lead shortly after half time when Maz Gauntlett fired past Hall from the edge of the box.
Wolves began to improve after this, and made it difficult for the Sky Blues to break them down, but didn’t look like troubling the hosts too much at the other end. Wolves had Jen Anslow, and then Zoe Woodcock to thank for keeping the score down to two, with some great last ditch tackles. Quayle hit the bar late on as Coventry tried to increase the lead, but they were unable to add to their tally against an improved Wolves defence.

Match Report
Wolves grabbed their first point and clean sheet of the season in a hotly contested game against local rivals Sporting Club Albion.
Both sides started brightly as the teams looked to gain early control of the derby fixture. Dani Selmes hooked a volley wide after good work from Amber Quick, and Albion were a threat on the break against a high Wolves backline. Selmes had Wolves’ best chance in the first half after being played in by debutant Jen Kikomeko, but Albion keeper Bec Thomas saved well to keep the score level. Natalie Hall produced a great stop to thwart a rare Albion attack before half time, as both sides looked for the goal that would turn the match.
The second half saw Albion pile on early pressure, but Wolves defended excellently, with Hall having little to do in the Wolves goal. Laura McQuilkin saw her volley fly over as Wolves looked to regain control of the game, before Anna Perks headed wide from a Jen Anslow free-kick. Dom Luke tried an effort from range, but her driven shot blazed over the bar.
The game opened up as legs grew tired, but the defending from both sides remained solid, although a committed tackle from Layla Salter earned a yellow card. The game remained goalless, and perhaps a draw was the fair result, but both sides will be happy to have avoided defeat against their rivals, and will be thanking their defences for such solid performances.
Wolves Manager Trevor Mullings was encouraged with his side’s display. He said: “I’m pleased with the performance today, we pressed well and didn't give Albion chance to settle on the ball. We’re creating chances but we must start punishing opponents. “There were some great individual performances and overall the team's work ethic was good. “We are looking to build on this performance and carry it over to our next away fixture at Preston.”

Match Report
Wolves Women slipped to a heavy defeat away at Preston, as they failed to build on last week’s derby draw.
Zoe Woodcock was forced into an early last-ditch tackle, before Natalie Hall made a good save to keep Wolves level. Wolves looked to take the lead when Dani Selmes raced down the right, but Jen Kikomeko could only slice her volley wide.
Preston were creating more chances, and scored two quick goals on the half hour mark to take control of the match. First, Jade Parker curled her effort into the top corner after Chelsea Flanagan set her up on the edge of the area. Jenna Carroll doubled the lead when she was given a free header from a long free-kick.
Preston fired in a quick double at the start of the second half to finish the game as a contest. Flanagan raced through despite calls for offside, and hammered her effort past Hall, before doubling her tally with a tap in at the back post. Selmes converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit after Kikomeko was brought down in the box, before rifling in an excellent second goal to give Wolves hope.
Hope was short-lived however, as Wolves conceded from the restart when Yasmine Swarbrick latched onto a long ball to loft an effort over the stranded Hall. Wolves tried once more to reduce the deficit, but Selmes and substitute Jade Hewitt were off target. Preston completed the scoring as full time approached, Alice Forshaw tapping in at the back post to complete a miserable afternoon for Wolves.

Match Report
Wolves Women were edged out in a vital relegation scrap away at Nottingham Forest Ladies.
Forest started quickly, forcing a good save from Natalie Hall in the early moments, before Wolves took complete control of the first half. Anna Perks headed narrowly over from a Jen Anslow corner, before Dani Selmes played in Jenni Kikomeko, who had her effort saved from 12 yards.
Wolves continued to pressure the hosts and create chances, Laura McQuilkin sending a dipping volley over the crossbar, before Selmes struck the post, as Wolves produced their best football of the season so far. Selmes struck the post once more following a Perks through ball as Wolves dominated proceedings, before Selmes fired wide when sent through as half time approached.
Wolves were lacking only a cutting edge to take advantage of their dominance, and were unable to take any of their numerous chances before Forest came out much improved after the interval. Wolves continued to push for the opening goal, but were undone when they thought they should have been awarded a foul on the edge of the Forest box. Despite the Wolves protests, Forest broke away at speed, and Andi Bell raced through to finish beyond Hall in the Wolves goal.
Wolves pressed for an equaliser but were unable to find their way through a sturdy Forest backline. Ultimately, the game provided a lesson in taking chances, as Forest won the game despite Wolves looking far more likely to score throughout. The result leaves Wolves firmly planted at the bottom of the league.

Wolves moved into the next round of the Birmingham County Cup with a comfortable win over Leamington.
Wolves dominated the game throughout, but struggled to put away the plentiful chances that they created. Dani Selmes headed over from a Jen Anslow cross, before seeing another effort well saved by the goalkeeper’s feet. Jen Kikomeko dragged an effort wide from the edge of the box and Leila Hopkins saw her effort saved as Wolves enjoyed the majority of the play in a lively first half at Keys Park.
The second half saw Wolves continue to apply the pressure, keeping the ball in the Leamington half, but unable to capitalise, as Selmes chipped an effort over when through on goal and Laura McQuilkin was denied from close range after connecting with a Selmes cross. With 20 minutes to go, Wolves upped their tempo, stretching their opponents with quick passing and surging wing-play, with McQuilkin and Jen Anslow causing the Leamington defence all sorts of problems.
The pressure finally told when Selmes was brought down in the area with 15 minutes to go. Selmes got up to calmly dispatch the spot kick to ease the nerves that were beginning to build. Wolves put the game beyond doubt three minutes later when McQuilkin played in Kikomeko, whose delightful turn saw her lose her marker before firing past the goalkeeper.

Match Report
Wolves Women won their first league game of the season with a comprehensive victory over Huddersfield Town Ladies.
Wolves made a quick start, as Dani Selmes saw an early shot fizz wide before a second effort was blocked well by the Huddersfield keeper. The early pressure told on 14 minutes, as Claire Hakeman’s cross found Selmes, who rifled in her shot from a tight angle to give Wolves an early lead.
Natalie Widdal doubled Wolves’ advantage four minutes later when she nodded in a Jen Anslow free-kick, as the home side took control of the game. Huddersfield looked dangerous on the break, and were nearly back in the game when a deflected effort hit the bar, after Dom Luke had raced back to make a challenge on Katie Nutter who was getting her shot away. Wolves were looking to kill the game before half time, and added to their lead when Jen Kikomeko prodded in from close range.
Huddersfield started well in the second half, looking for the early goal that would help them back into the game. The visitors almost achieved that from a corner, but Widdal was in the right place to hook the ball off the line as Wolves sought to preserve their clean sheet. This early drama prompted Wolves to regain their first half initiative, and they responded well, Laura McQuilkin going close before Jen Anslow raced into the box, only to be brought down. Selmes converted the resulting spot kick to make it 4-0.
Selmes could have had a fifth just minutes later, but her left-footed effort clipped the bottom of the post after she had beaten her marker. Wolves continued to press for more goals, and went close through Anna Perks and Amber Quick, but they were unable to add to their tally. Wolves have been guilty this season of not turning pressure and chances into goals, but they finally put away some of the chances they created, and have hopefully turned a corner as they look to avoid relegation this season.
Manager Trevor Mullings was full of praise for his side. He said: “It was an excellent performance today, building on the good efforts that we produced last week. “We defended well as a unit, kept our discipline and produced some good counter attacking play. “It was refreshing to see the chances that we created were being executed, giving us the platform to build and play with more confidence. “Having the belief and taking this new sense of confidence is a must for us to build on to turn our season around.”

Match Report
Wolves Women crashed to a painful defeat at home to Newcastle in a vital relegation fixture.
The game started well for both sides, with quick short passing on show, demonstrating a level of quality which belied the respective league positions. Wolves were first to threaten, a Jen Anslow free-kick beaten away by Megan Borthwick in the Newcastle goal.
Despite the good start, Wolves fell behind on 17 minutes. A defensive error allowed Newcastle to cross the ball in, and Stacey Crooks was on hand to fire home despite the best efforts of Natalie Hall. Wolves looked to respond, and came close to levelling when Anna Perks narrowly headed wide from a corner.
Both sides were creating chances, and Wolves had Hall to thank for keeping the score down as she made a stunning save from a Newcastle free-kick. Wolves came close once again to an equaliser, but Jordan Timmins-Ray was unable to connect with an Amber Quick cross. Hall was called into action again, making another fine save before Dom Luke blazed over for Wolves.
The second half was a more restricted affair, but Anslow was once again denied by the in-form Borthwick from a set piece as her free-kick was clawed away from the top corner. Wolves made a double substitution as they looked to change the game, and Layla Salter made an immediate contribution with a brave goal-line challenge.
However it was all in vain, as Newcastle stunned the hosts on 76 minutes. A free kick was driven into the six-yard box, and Dani Purdham was able to flick the ball through a body of players to double Newcastle’s lead.
The visitors put the game beyond doubt with nine minutes to go when Purdham grabbed her second goal of the afternoon, firing into the bottom corner as Wolves slipped to defeat. A late flurry saw Jenny Kikomeko slide the ball in for Wolves, but she was ruled offside.

Match Report
Wolves Women battled to a deserved FA cup win over Newcastle United Ladies in an action-packed game at Keys Park. Both sides played out a game fitting of the phrase: “a proper cup-tie.”
Wolves threatened inside three minutes through Laura McQuilkin’s close range effort, but from then on Newcastle took control in the opening half an hour. Wolves were guilty of holding too high a line on their goal-kicks, and Newcastle were exploiting the space, with Jessica Foster firing narrowly over after Wolves had lost possession.
Wolves were struggling to keep the ball, but took the lead against the run of play as half time approached. Anna Perks picked up the ball 30 yards out and lobbed a through pass superbly over the Newcastle backline, and Jennifer Kikomeko controlled the ball superbly before slotting in past Megan Borthwick. Wolves suddenly sprang into life. Kikomeko was brought down in the box from the restart, but penalty appeals were waved away, before she then chipped in from close range, only to be correctly ruled offside.
The second half saw Newcastle quickly strike the crossbar through the lively Foster, before she came close once again with a close-range header. Newcastle’s endeavour finally reaped rewards when the dangerous Stacey Crooks lofted an effort over Natalie Hall after a great through ball from Foster.
Despite being pulled level, Wolves began to raise their game, with Dani Selmes firing in past Borthwick, only to be ruled offside as the hosts began to keep the ball and look dangerous on the attack. With 15 minutes to go, the game again gained some tempo as both sides surged forward in search of a winning goal. McQuilkin cannoned an effort off the crossbar for Wolves, before Hall was called upon to make an outstanding double save to keep Newcastle out at the other end.
As extra time approached, Wolves won a free-kick 30 yards out and piled the numbers forward, not wanting to risk extra time and maybe penalties. Jen Anslow fed the ball into the box, and Selmes was able to get there first, flicking the ball into the path of Kikomeko, who fired in from close-range to snatch a deserved winner.
Newcastle will feel aggrieved after having most of the play and chances in the first half, but Wolves were a far more dangerous force after the break, and will feel they deserved the late winner. Wolves will also be encouraged by the performances of young twins Jade and Emma Cross, who came on in the second half and did not look out of place in the senior side.

Match Report
Wolves Women produced a professional performance to beat Bilbrook Ladies and progress into the next round of the Birmingham County Cup.
Wolves opened the scoring inside ten minutes when Emma Cross played in Jen Anslow, who beat her marker to race down the left wing, before cutting inside to dink her finish past a stranded goalkeeper. Wolves striker Dani Selmes missed a penalty on 15 minutes before Jenny Kikomeko fired in from 18 yards to double the advantage. Wolves had another penalty when Leila Hopkins was brought down, and Selmes showed great character to step up once more, and this time found the back of the net. Selmes doubled her tally shortly before half time with a precise curling effort from 18 yards.
In the second half, Wolves came out looking to increase their lead, and did so on 52 minutes. Both Jen’s combined as Anslow crossed for Kikomeko to fire in from close range. Natalie Dean, making her Wolves debut, made it 6-0 after the hour with a sweet left-footed strike.
Selmes completed her hat-trick on 72 minutes, coolly slotting in from another Anslow cross. And Kikomeko completed her hat-trick two minutes later, driving from deep to race clear of the Bilbrook backline to drive an effort past the stricken keeper.
Jade Cross scored her first senior goal for Wolves to make it 9-0, the winger rewarded for her strong performance full of direct running as she cut in from the right to slam home from 12 yards. Selmes notched her fourth goal of the game after rounding the keeper as Wolves completed a perfect ten.

Match Report
Wolves Women battled back to a valuable draw away at Newcastle on Sunday, but will be aggrieved at missing out on all three points.
Few chances were created by either side in a hard-fought battle in the first half, as both defences worked well to keep out the opposition. Wolves’ best chance fell to Anna Perks who headed just over from a corner, before a Jen Anslow free-kick was tipped over by Megan Borthwick on the half hour mark.
As half time approached a moment of controversy changed the game as Stacey Crooks went down in the box. The referee initially played on but changed his mind and pointed to the spot after calls from the Newcastle players. Further controversy ensued when Crooks rifled her penalty against the underside of the bar. The referee once more played on, ruling that the ball had not crossed the line, only for his assistant to raise his flag as Wolves looked to hit on the break. As it was the goal was given and Newcastle were handed the lead.
Wolves came out for the second half looking to right what they felt was an injustice, and had the better of the hosts for much of the match. Wolves’ pressure brought an early penalty shout as the ball struck the arm of a Newcastle defender, but the referee ignored the protests and played on.
Dani Selmes had two good chances to level the game for Wolves but Borthwick made a good save before Selmes fired wide. As the game entered the final stages, Wolves looked likely to equalise, but had Natalie Hall to thank for keeping the score down as she raced out to deny Crooks on 78 minutes.
Wolves had another penalty shout turned down on 84 minutes before they were finally awarded a penalty with five minutes to go, following a silky passage of play. Perks played a through ball to Amber Quick down the right-wing, before crossing to Anslow, who beat her marker before being scythed down in the box. Selmes stepped up, converting the penalty to the keeper’s left to level the match.
Wolves piled on the pressure but ran out of time to find a winning goal, in a game that showcased some sturdy defending from both sides.

Match Report
Wolves Women cruised into the next round of the Birmingham County Cup with a dominant win over Coventry City Development Ladies.
A blistering start saw Wolves score twice in the first five minutes. Twins Emma and Jade Cross combined to open the scoring, as Emma played in Jade to tap home after good work from Natalie Dean.
Jenny Kikomeko doubled the advantage with a controlled volley from 20 yards after more good work from Jade Cross, who troubled the visitors throughout with her pace. Amber Quick dragged an effort wide for Wolves before making it 3-0, finding the net from 12 yards after when Clare Hakeman played the ball inside from the right wing.
Jade Cross continued to torment the Coventry defence as she won a penalty on 19 minutes as she was brought down. Kikomeko stepped up to confidently stroke the ball past the keeper. Wolves made it five soon after when a Jen Anslow corner was flicked on, before being deflected into the Coventry net. Dom Luke cracked the crossbar with a ferocious strike before half time as Wolves dominated possession.
The second half saw Wolves introduce youngsters Emily North, Charlotte Jones and Jordan Pendleton as they looked to extend their lead. Twins Emma and Jade Cross again combined from the restart. First Emma played in Jade to strike her shot at the keeper before Jade returned the favour, but Emma’s effort was cleared away. Wolves had a succession of chances to add to their tally in the second half, but were unable to find the clinical touch to make the most of their possession.
Wolves eased into the next round, and will be pleased with the continued development of their young players.

Match Report
Wolves Women’s relegation troubles were deepened after defeat away at fellow-strugglers Derby County. Wolves are in a transitional period after parting company with Manager Trevor Mullings and his coaching staff, with an interim team of Wolves Community Trust staff in place until the end of the season.
Wolves started well enough in appalling conditions at Derby, despite missing half of their first team players. Nicole Butler was handed her debut at right-back, and didn’t look out of place as Wolves started brightly, with Jade Cross stealing the ball 30 yards out, before playing in Emily North who fizzed her effort wide.
Derby were on the back-foot, but were able to take the lead against the run of play on 17 minutes when Aimee Perry was gifted a free header from a corner. Wolves continued to look the better side but were struggling to create clear-cut chances as both sides fought for control in midfield.
The second half saw Derby improve as Wolves tried in vain to get themselves back into the match. Goalkeeper Lottie McElroy was forced into a brilliant one-handed save from a Derby effort from distance, as she looked to stake her claim as the club's number one, following the departure of Natalie Hall. However McElroy was helpless as Wolves gifted Derby their second goal. A square ball was intercepted on the half-way line allowing Melissa Johnson to race clear and chip the onrushing keeper.
Jen Anslow tried her luck from 35 yards as Wolves attempted to get back into the game, but her shot dipped narrowly over the bar. Johnson rifled in her second goal on the turn ten minutes later as Derby ran out deserving 3-0 winners.
Assistant Manager Brian Churm reflected on the match. He said: “With four regular first team players out we fielded players from our reserve set up. To their credit they battled well, so we were really pleased with that. "After controlling the game for the first 20 minutes, we had a momentary lack of concentration to allow Derby to score from a corner. “Conditions worsened with both sets of players struggling to stand up on a boggy pitch but we were undone by minor lapses of concentration. “All in all we were pleased with the performance in those terrible conditions and we will continue to build the confidence in the squad for next week."

Wolves Women were edged out by mid-table Preston as they suffered defeat at Keys Park.
Both sides started well, with Preston forcing a good save from Lottie McElroy, while Wolves provided plenty of threat on the break with the pace of Jade Cross troubling the Preston backline. Clear-cut chances were few and far between however, but Preston were able to take the lead when Sarah Chadwick turned her marker to fire past McElroy on the half hour mark.
Preston could have doubled their lead before half-time, but Natalie Widdal bravely took one for the team, bringing down Chadwick who was through on goal to concede a free-kick. Widdal only received a booking, and the resulting free-kick was cleared after striking the bar.
Preston doubled their lead quickly in the second half after Wolves failed to clear their lines. Chelsea Flanagan was able to nip in and place her shot into the net from 12 yards. Wolves’ best chance fell to Amber Quick who had intercepted the goalkeeper’s pass, but she couldn’t find the net as the visiting defence closed her down.
While Wolves will think they could have done better with the first two goals, they could do nothing about the Preston third as Lauren Walker rifled a first time shot from 25 yards into the top corner. Jen Anslow and Anna Perks both came close for Wolves as the game came to a close, but Preston were fully deserving of the win.

Match Report
Wolves Women were beaten at home by Nottingham Forest, leaving them needing to win their last four games to stand any chance of Premier League survival.
Lucy Gardner, making her debut in goal for Wolves, tipped over an early free-kick as Forest looked for the goals that would help keep them in the division. They opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Wolves failed to clear a corner, and Natasha Meade was able to scramble in at the near-post. The closest Wolves game to an equaliser in the first half was a header from Sally Stanton, who could only nod wide from 12 yards.
Wolves made a good start to the second half as they searched for an equaliser when Amber Quick raced through, but she fired wide under pressure. Forest kept up their own pressure and were rewarded with a penalty shortly after the hour, Natalie Widdal bringing down Katie Lowder, who recovered to fire home the penalty.
Wolves got themselves back into the match with ten minutes remaining when Jade Cross raced onto a through ball and finished left-footed into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Wolves looked invigorated and kept Forest on the back-foot, but were unable to find an equaliser. With injury time looming, Wolves were once again undone at a set-piece as they failed to clear a corner and Isabel Sullivan tapped in a scrappy third goal.
The full time whistle soon followed and leaves Wolves needing to win their last four games and overturn a 30-goal deficit.

Match Report
Wolves Women produced a superb performance to beat rivals Sporting Club Albion at Keys Park.
A typically combative fixture saw both sides battle for control in the opening exchanges, with Wolves playing for pride after a difficult season. Wolves were edging the play, and the first moment of real drama came on 22 minutes. A great ball from Natalie Widdal found Emma Cross, who burst down the left before being brought down in the box for a Wolves penalty. Hattie James stepped up to take the spot-kick, but saw her effort denied by the crossbar.
Emma Cross continued to cause Albion problems, playing in twin sister Jade who just failed to prod home at full stretch as Wolves attacked with pace. Wolves were pushing for the opening goal, and nearly took the lead on 41 minutes as Jade Cross played in Amber Quick, but the midfielder fired over under pressure. Wolves took a deserved lead at the end of the first half. A Jen Anslow corner found its way to Dom Luke at the edge of the box, who rifled into the bottom corner through a sea of bodies to break the deadlock.
Wolves continued to cause Albion problems with their pace in the second half. A fast breakaway saw Luke drive at the Albion defence and play in Quick, whose clever first-time pass found Jade Cross, but her shot was well saved by Vanessa James in the visitors’ goal. As the half wore on Albion began to see more of the ball as they pushed for an equaliser, but Wolves defended well, leaving keeper Lucy Gardner with very little to do.
Wolves then managed to regain control of the game, with an Anslow free-kick from 30 yards bringing out a fine save from James. Wolves then made their pressure tell with a second goal with five minutes remaining. Once again using their pace in attack, Jade Cross raced away down the left-hand side and won a corner, which found its way to captain Anna Perks, who drove in from the edge of the box to seal the win. Wolves came close to a third but Jade Cross could only loop over from 12 yards after good work from the tireless Quick. A win was nothing less than Wolves deserved after thoroughly outplaying the Baggies in an entertaining game.
Assistant Manager Brian Churm was delighted with the outcome. He said: “We are so proud of the girls tonight and this win proves that we are still a fighting team. “Sitting at the bottom of the table is heart-breaking but to see the girls perform like that tonight warmed everyone’s hearts. “In fairness to us, we dominated the game and should have had more goals but beating your local rivals after four seasons, whatever the score, is always fantastic. “The players will take this confidence into Sunday’s away game v Bradford and hopefully come away with something.”
