Match Report
Wolves Women made the perfect start to their Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One campaign under new manager Steve Cullis as they scored five of the eight goals in a thriller at Keys Park. Jade Cross opened the scoring when she latched on to Anna Perks’ ball before Hayley Wilford restored parity for the visitors ten minutes later.
Cross scored her second to put Wolves ahead again and sealed a first-half hat-trick just after the half-hour mark when she tapped home from close range. Amber Quick sent Wolves 4-1 up at the break but goals from Tanya Dickinson and a superb strike from Danielle Kingston set up a tense finale before Jade Sailsman’s late goal wrapped up three points for the hosts.
Wolves took the lead within 32 seconds when Perks delivered an accurate long ball to Cross who opened her account for the season with a cool finish. But Solihull had the perfect response when, ten minutes later, Wilford had Wolves keeper Amy Burnside well fooled and placed the ball home from close range.
After capitalising on a Solihull defensive mix up, Dominique Luke played Cross through on goal to put Wolves back into the lead soon after. With their tails up, Wolves could have found a third when Sailsman found Jenni Anslow on the left wing but she fired just wide of the left-hand post.
Following a period in the first half that saw Wolves dominate possession, Quick was unlucky not to score when she shot wide of the mark following Cross’s delivery. After Anslow sent forward a long ball that had confused the Solihull back line, Cross scored with another cool finish ten minutes before the break to seal a first-half hat-trick. Jess Davies could have put Wolves 4-1 up two minutes later after linking up with Quick but her dipping lob went just over the bar.
After play was delayed when former Wolves Women defender Layla Salter received treatment, Solihull keeper Georgina Perry failed to clear Anslow’s shot and Quick tapped in from close range. Moments later, Solihull failed to deal with Quick when she headed Anslow’s corner but Perry saved the ball from going into the top right-hand corner. On the stroke of half time, Anslow and Cross linked up again when the former delivered a curling ball to Cross but Perry scooped up her delivery.
After the break, Cross could have notched her fourth goal when Quick put her through unmarked on goal but Perry managed to parry her shot away. Wolves continued their domination from the first half and could have been 5-1 up when Sailsman tried her luck from long range but the ball sailed inches over the bar.
Solihull had few chances in the opening stages of the second half and were fortunate not to concede again when Anslow almost scored straight from a corner, but Perry managed to push the ball away. The visitors were back in it after Emma Cross failed to clear the ball and unmarked visiting captain Tanya Dickinson struck the ball home from the 18 yard line.
Soon after, substitute Kimberley Davies almost scored Wolves’ fifth goal of the afternoon when she placed the ball just wide of the left post. Danielle Kingston aided Solihull’s fightback and set up a tense finish with a terrific long-range shot that sailed over the top of Burnside’s crossbar.
But Wolves were out of sight when Anslow delivered another corner into the Solihull box and Sailsman tapped in from close range to seal an opening day win.

Match Report
Wolves Women extended their 100% winning start to the season as they thrashed Sporting Khalsa 6-0 at the Aspray Arena, bringing their tally to 11 goals in their opening two games. Wolves started the brighter on a chilly night in Willenhall, pinning Khalsa into their own half for much of the opening ten minutes.
The visitors were almost rewarded early on when Jenni Anslow fired a corner into the box but Anna Perks nodded straight at the keeper.Their early pressure continued, as Kimberley Ratcliffe laid the ball onto Marie Ballard, who failed to break the deadlock despite testing the keeper from close range. Khalsa fought back and could have stolen the lead against the run of play from a long-range free kick, but their effort sailed wide of the mark.
Soon after, a defensive mix up allowed Khalsa through on goal, though her follow up cross failed to connect and flew past the Wolves back line. Wolves took the lead when Ballard tapped the ball home from close range after Dominique Luke fired an accurate cross into the box. And they doubled their lead soon after, when Ballard turned in the box and clipped the post with a dipping effort, but Kimberley Ratcliffe was on hand to poke the ball home.
Wolves’ first half dominance continued as some miscommunication from the Khalsa defenders allowed Laura McQuilkin to fire from 18 yards although the keeper redeemed herself to save. The visitors could have extended their lead when Jen Anslow delivered a pinpoint cross into the box yet despite Ratcliffe’s clever turn, she shot just over the crossbar.
Wolves’ impressive night continued as Amber Quick sent a low cross into the Khalsa area just before the break but Ratcliffe was unlucky not to fire home from in the box. On the stroke of half time, Luke played a smart pass to Ratcliffe who failed to test the keeper from within the Khalsa box.
Wolves enjoyed a fantastic start to the second half and extended their lead when Anslow crossed the ball for Ratcliffe to lay the ball onto Marie Ballard who tapped home. Anslow soon found Wolves’ fourth with a terrific strike, firing a free kick from around 40 yards that had the Khalsa goalkeeper fooled.
Khalsa could have got back in it when they capitalised on some poor defending from the visitors which allowed the ball to sail into the box however Wolves cleared the danger. The hosts came close to finding a consolation when their number nine latched on to a cross but nodded an effort inches over the crossbar.
During a stage where Khalsa gathered momentum, they again almost found the net with a scuffed shot just wide of Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner’s post. Wolves put the game to bed when they found their fifth through Hattie James late on before Ratcliffe finished in style from long-range.

Match Report
Wolves Women maintained their unbeaten start to the season and made it 15 goals in their opening three matches with a comfortable 4-1 victory against Leafield Athletic.
The visitors started well and were unlucky not to break through the Leafield backline after some clever link up play between Laura McQuilkin and Dominique Luke. Following a poor challenge, the referee awarded a free kick which Jen Anslow fired straight at the Leafield goalkeeper.
Against the run of play, following a spell of Leafield pressure, McQuilkin unleashed a shot from the corner of the box which narrowly sailed over the bar. Moments later, Marie Ballard played the ball on to Kim Ratcliffe who fired a powerful shot which was well saved by the keeper.
Ratcliffe then played the ball to Jade Sailsman who cleverly teed up McQuilkin in the box but the keeper parried away her effort. Leafield struggled to clear a Wolves corner soon after and were fortunate not to go a goal down when McQuilkin again fired on goal, only for the keeper to clear the danger.
Wolves took the lead after 20 minutes after the referee awarded a free kick just outside the box after a handball and Anslow
found with the net with a terrific strike. The visitors could have doubled their lead straight from the restart but Ratcliffe’s effort was disallowed for offside following some impressive attacking play.
Leafield had very few chances in the opening half hour and their best effort came when they shot from long range, but the ball flew high and wide. Wolves maintained their early pressure with Anslow delivering a fine corner into the box but Leafield did well to clear their lines.Anna Perks could have doubled Wolves advantage ten minutes before the break but her headed effort went just over the bar.
Leafield restored parity when Leila Hopkins capitalised on a rare lapse in the Wolves defence and coolly poked the ball past Lucy Gardner. However, almost a minute after Leafield’s leveller, Wolves broke on the counter and were awarded a penalty after the referee judged the ball was handled in the box. McQuilkin was rewarded for her attacking performance in the first half and sent Wolves into the break with their lead restored as she converted from the spot.
On the stroke of half time, Leafield pressed to equalise again and Wolves were unlucky not to concede when Luke lost the ball in midfield and Hopkins broke through on goal, but her long-range drive went just wide of the mark.
Wolves went into the second half with their tails up and created a quickfire trio of chances after the restart. First Luke’s effort sailed over the bar, then Leafield keeper Price had Ratcliffe’s effort well covered before Anslow fired just wide. Wolves gave themselves a two-goal cushion when Perks latched onto a corner and nodded home from close range. And the visitors extended their lead further minutes later - again from a corner - when Widdal nodded home. Wolves could have added a fifth late on when Anslow sent a ball into the box but the finish from Ballard was just wide.

Match Report
Wolves Women made it four wins out of four in a hard-fought away game against Loughborough Students. A reinvigorated Loughborough side gave Wolves a hard game with a strong team made up of newly-arrived students which didn’t reflect their poor start to the season and position at the bottom of the table.
They almost took an immediate lead straight from the kick-off, and were through on goal but the shot went just wide. Wolves were quick to reply though, and in the third minute Laura McQuilkin latched onto the ball as it rebounded off the keeper, and struck it cleanly into the bottom corner of the net to put the visitors ahead.
They had another opportunity in the 8th minute as Hattie James put a ball over the top, but Jade Cross pulled it just wide. Wolves suffered a blow in the 18th minute when goal-scorer McQuilkin was forced off with a calf injury. The visitors had to reshuffle, with James moving into centre midfield, and substitute Kimberley Ratcliffe taking her place up front.
Loughborough were playing good football and putting Wolves under a lot of pressure, and should have equalised when they hit the bar, but Wolves stood firm and maintained their lead at the break.
Wolves started the second half well, but again Loughborough came at them and they had to dig in. Dominique Luke had the best chance of the half for Wolves, but her shot went just wide from her left foot.
Substitute Hannah Johnson did well in her debut appearance at senior level after coming on in the 75th minute. There was also a debut substitute appearance for Loughborough from former Wolves player Emily North, who is now a student at the University.
Lucy Gardner made an excellent save in the Wolves goal with 10 minutes to go, and Wolves found themselves having to defend a series of free-kicks in the dying minutes of the game, but held on for the win.
Player/Assistant Manager Anna Perks said: “It was a scrappy game, with a good Loughborough side putting us under a lot of pressure. “They probably deserved a goal, but we defended well as a team and saw the game out.”

Jade Cross scored a hat trick as Wolves Women put nine goals past Handsworth Ladies FC in the SSE FA Women’s Cup to continue their fine start to the season.Going into the tie on the back of a five-game unbeaten run in the league, which includes 18 goals scored,
Dominique Luke in a typical midfield tussle
Wolves enjoyed the perfect start and took the lead in the first minute from a penalty. After some smart link up play involving Jade Sailsman and Jen Anslow, the latter was brought down and gave Wolves the lead from the spot.
Hattie James had the chance to double Wolves’ advantage soon after when she was played through by Sailsman however she fired just wide of the mark.
The hosts went 2-0 up against a Handsworth defence that was struggling to contain Wolves’ attacking play. After Maz Ballard’s shot cannoned against the crossbar, Dominique Luke fired home from distance after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

crossed to Sailsman straight from the restart but the keeper did well to parry her shot away. Wolves captain Anna Perks made it 3-0 after just eight minutes played when some confusion from the Handsworth backline allowed her to easily place the ball home.
The visitors had their first shot on goal soon after but fired straight at Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner. Wolves were awarded another penalty when Ballard was fouled in the box by the keeper and Anslow stepped up to the spot again, only to weakly tap the ball past the right-hand post.
Dani Pinder could have got Handsworth back into it from the restart when she ran onto the left flank and unleashed a long-range drive but it went just wide of the post. Then it was Wolves’ turn to attack and Ballard came close to making it 4-0 from a corner after 20 minutes yet her headed effort went just wide of the post.
James later chested the ball and volleyed a terrific shot from 18 yards which was unlucky not to hit the target. Some fortunate defending kept the score 3-0 when Ballard was denied by the keeper before Wolves had another effort on goal blocked by Handsworth’s last defender.
Wolves had a goal disallowed when Ballard was played through on goal only to chip the keeper and see the offside flag raised. Ballard then played a long ball to James who teed up Quick to play in Salisman who easily made it 4-0 from close range.
Jade Cross sent Wolves into the dressing room 5-0 up with a lovely sliding shot from an acute angle after she was set up with a cross across goal by Luke.
After a quiet start to the second half, Wolves continued to compound Handsworth’s misery as they caught their back line sleeping and Jade Cross coolly poked home. Ballard made it 7-0 when some confident play, which began in Wolves midfield, was rewarded when Cross set her up and she could not miss the target from close range.
Handsworth’s dreary afternoon at Bentley Sport Ground continued and it was 8-0 when Ballard bagged a second soon after as she latched on to a fantastic mazy run to strike. Sailsman could have made it 9-0 soon after and was unlucky when her powerful shot rebounded off the right-hand post but Cross wrapped up her hat trick to cap off a fantastic Wolves display.

Match Report
Wolves Women made it 19 goals in two matches as they began their Birmingham County Cup campaign with a thumping 10-0 win against Wednesfield Town Ladies.
Wolves started well and almost took the lead in the first minute when Emma Cross fired the ball to Jade Salisman, who hit the bar with a headed effort. The visitors took the lead on five minutes when Jen Anslow played a neat through ball to Maz Ballard who calmly tapped the ball home.
Ballard scored her second soon after in impressive fashion when she lobbed the keeper from the 18 yard line. Hattie James missed the chance to send Wolves 3-0 up just a minute later when she failed to tap home Anslow’s low cross.
James missed another chance, heading wide when Cross sent in a right wing delivery. Anslow sent in a fantastic free kick minutes later from long range which was unlucky not to beat the Wednesfield keeper. A goalmouth scramble could have resulted in Wolves’ third but after Hakeman sent the ball into the box, the Wednesfield keeper parried James’ header and Ballard missed from close-range.
James got closer to opening her account for the afternoon when she sent in a fine headed effort which hit the bar before firing a shot the wrong side of the post moments later. Without a fit goalkeeper, Wolves played Jade Cross in goal during a first half where Wednesfield lacked an attacking threat, with Cross taking 19 minutes before she had a touch of the ball.
Ballard soon completed a 22-minute hat trick when she beat the Wednesfield offside trap and coolly slotted home. Anslow could have scored a fantastic fourth goal for Wolves when her left-wing cross went in on goal and wildly swerved in mid-air to hit the crossbar. Ballard’s impressive attacking spell continued and she found a fourth goal on the half-volley when Perks ran from the back and played her through on goal.
Wolves were awarded a penalty on 37 minutes after the ball was handled in the box and James finally got on the scoresheet when she struck home the resulting spot kick. Amber Quick swiftly fired in a long-range pearler on the stroke of half time to send Wolves in 6-0 ahead at the break.
Dominique Luke enjoyed Wolves’ first shot on goal in the second half when she broke into the Wednesfield box but her shot went wide of the post. James replaced Cross in goal for the second half and Wolves enjoyed a fine start as Louise Price found a seventh goal minutes after the restart when she latched onto Anslow’s ball at the near post and headed home.
Hakeman sent a ball into the box which Anslow ran on to meet but she scuffed the ball into the side netting. Anslow kept looking to get on the scoresheet and fired in a powerful shot six minutes into the second half which was unlucky not to hit the target. Jade Cross could have sealed an impressive eighth goal with a curling effort from the 18-yard line, but the ball sailed narrowly over the bar.
Anslow finally scored to make it 8-0 when she latched onto Salisman’s clever ball in the box. And the visitors scored a ninth goal for the second successive game when Price bagged a brace after tapping in Jade Cross’s rebounded effort. The visitors made it into double figures, a feat they could not reach in the FA Cup the previous week against Handsworth, as substitute Sophie Richards scored her first goal the club.
The result capped off a miserable afternoon for the hosts as Wednesfield barely entered the Wolves penalty area and failed to register a shot on goal.

Match Report
Wolves Women continued their unbeaten run in league and cup, making it seven wins out of seven so far this season as they returned to league action on their travels at Rotherham United.
Wolves played a patient game in the first half, keeping the ball while looking to threaten at times. They dominated across the pitch, creating a lot of chances from different angles, but credit must go to the Rotherham keeper who kept them at bay for the first 45 minutes.
Wolves' luck changed in the second half as Hattie James was fouled in the box in the 46th minute. She stepped up to take the resulting penalty, beating the keeper convincingly to put Wolves ahead.
It was just what was needed and soon the floodgates opened with Jade Cross next on the scoresheet in the 54th minute. Jenni Anslow played a perfect through ball, and Cross took on the defender one-on-one, shooting from 18 yards to nestle the ball in the top corner of the net.
In the 60th minute Jade Cross impressed with some trickery just outside the box. She drew a foul and Anslow's stunning free kick gave the keeper no chance, making it 3-0 to the visitors.
The fourth goal was the result of some great link up play between the Cross twins. Jade pinged the ball from the left-hand side of the goal to the far post, where sister Emma was on hand to tap it in from close range.
Wolves recorded an impressive 4-0 win and their fifth clean sheet of the season in league and cup. Manager Steve Cullis said: "I'm really pleased with another great result and clean sheet. The girls played in a professional manner and stuck to the philosophy we've been working to. “Praise must go to Jade and Hattie working well together up front as the focal point of the attack. “Let's hope our great run continues with another three points when we're back at home next week."

Match Report
Wolves Women lost their first match of the season in all competitions as bottom-of-the-league Loughborough Students came from behind to steal a late victory. Going into the match having not conceded a goal for six matches, scoring 26 in the process, Wolves were riding high on confidence.
After dominating an early spell, Laura McQuilkin was unfortunate not to give Wolves the lead when she struck a powerful shot from the corner of the 18-yard box that skidded inches past the left-hand post. Loughborough struggled to deal with Wolves’ passing threat as Jen Anslow and Jade Sailsman helped to dominate the left flank but the hosts struggled to open the scoring during a quiet opening period.
Wolves almost took the lead midway through the first half when Jade Cross beat her marker and teed up Maz Ballard. But her long range shot was scooped up by the Loughborough keeper. Soon after, Cross went on a run past the Loughborough back line thanks to a superb through pass from Ballard, but the ball ran straight to the keeper.
Just before the break, Wolves captain Anna Perks put in a fantastic last ditch tackle to keep the scores level after Loughborough ran through one-on-one with Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner.
With neither side breaking the deadlock in the first half, Loughborough had the ball in the back of the net soon after the restart but the effort was adjudged offside. Despite dominating stages of the first half, it was Loughborough who took the lead five minutes into the second half after a goalkeeping error from Gardner allowed Emily Clements through on goal to score.
But Wolves broke back immediately as captain Perks beat the Loughborough defence meet a corner and coolly nod the ball home. And Wolves could have doubled their advantage as Sailsman laid the ball onto Anslow who fired from range but the Loughborough keeper palmed her shot away.
The visitors did well not to concede again as Wolves kept pressuring at set pieces and almost found the net through a goalmouth scramble, but Loughborough regained possession. What followed was a spell of play where Wolves took the game to Loughborough and the hosts took the lead in emphatic fashion as McQuilkin ran into the box and fired home a superb shot.
Wolves could have made it three when Ballard set up Anslow who crossed into Quick but the ball fell to Ballard again and then deflected out for a corner where McQuilkin fired a rebound wide. Loughborough grabbed an equaliser when a spilled cross allowed Clements to nab her second.
McQuilkin could have heroically nicked all three points for Wolves late on with a shot at the near post but the keeper tipped it away. But with a minute of normal time to go, Eva Rogers ran through on goal against the run of play and lobbed Gardner to give an unwanted sucker punch to what had been an impressive Wolves performance.
Wolves captain Anna Perks said: “I am absolutely devastated. “We got ourselves back in it at 2-1 and I felt we were in control but we didn’t finish our chances and it come back and got us in the end. “We had the majority of the play and in the second half we had a lot of the chances, more shots on goal and more of the ball but mistakes have cost us.
“We will bounce back and we’ve had a great start to the season, but we will put it right. “We have to be positive, and now have two weeks off from the league to get our confidence back. “We’re a good side and just because we’ve lost one game that won’t win or lose us the league. “We will move on and it’s onwards and upwards.”

Match Report
Wolves Women progressed easily to the First Round Proper of the FA Women’s Cup in an injury-affected game at The New Saints’ Park Hall ground. The first injury came just two minutes into the game as Laura McQuilkin collided with the TNS keeper who had to be substituted following a lengthy stoppage.
Wolves captain Anna Perks came close in the 14th minute, heading goalwards from McQuilkin’s free-kick from the sideline. Then just two minutes later McQuilkin carried the ball from deep, playing a one-two with Quick on the edge of the box before finishing via the crossbar to put Wolves ahead.
The visitors were in the ascendency, and in the 18th minute Jade Cross won the ball on the edge of the box, passing to Jenni Anslow whose shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Jade Sailsman who had two efforts well saved by the substitute keeper.
Anslow’s free-kick on the half hour from the edge of the box went just over the bar before TNS headed over from a corner. olves’ persistence paid off in the 35th minute as Anslow’s corner was set back to her. She cut in past the defender and sent the ball in off the post to send Wolves in at the break 2-0 up.

The second half saw Wolves continue to put on the pressure, and Sailsman came close just two minutes into the half with a strong shot which was well saved. In the 52nd minute Jade Cross shot just wide after good work on the left with McQuilkin and Sailsman.
Then came the second long delay of the game as a TNS player was forced off with an ankle injury. Wolves’ defence were caught napping after the restart as TNS won the ball in the area and fired into the side netting.
Wolves won a corner in the 64th minute and Jade Cross’s ball was headed on target by substitute Hattie James, but the keeper made a good save, sending the ball out for another corner. This time McQuilkin’s corner was headed home by Perks to give the visitors a three goal advantage.
Dominique Luke could have made it four towards the end of the game, but her shot from midfield went straight to the keeper. It was a dominant but scrappy second half and Wolves managed to keep the ball and not concede to see them comfortably into the first round proper.
Manager Steve Cullis said: “It was a professional performance today, and now our aim is to better our previous winning streak.”

Match Report
Wolves Women stormed to victory as they hit top form to put nine goals past Coundon Court in the Birmingham County Cup on Sunday. The hosts, who are unbeaten in the league this season and top of the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Division One South table, were unlucky not to go ahead after just a minute when a defensive mix up allowed them through on goal but the ball went narrowly wide.
Some good play from Wolves in midfield allowed Jen Anslow to run through and try a lobbed effort on goal - however the keeper saved the danger. Anslow again had the chance to break the deadlock when she unleashed a powerful shot from long range, but the keeper again saved.
Dominating much of the opening 15 minutes, Wolves were unlucky not to take the lead when Dom Luke pulled off a fantastic turn in the box and crossed into the far post although none of Wolves’ attacking players could connect. The visitors went ahead when a fantastic ball by Anslow floated into the box and the onrushing Jess Davis poked the ball home.
Soon after, Sophie Richards had a goal disallowed for offside when she turned in the box and tapped the ball past the Coundon keeper. Wolves controlled the flow of the game in a windy first half, as Anslow nearly got on the scoresheet with a cross that swung wildly goalbound.
However, Coundon found an unlikely equaliser against the run of play when Cerys Miller evaded the Wolves back line and took advantage of an opening.
Wolves found their way back into the game and retook the lead in style as Anslow made it 2-1 with a superb long-range effort. They could have made it 3-1 soon after when a defensive mix up allowed substitute Jade Cross to nod in on goal but Coundon managed to clear.
Luke almost found the back of the net with a fierce drive from distance only for her effort to cannon off the left-hand post. Amber Quick made it three when she made the most of a goalmouth scramble to latch onto Jade Cross’ ball and find the net. Luke, a relentless threat with the ball, thundered home a shot from the corner of the box which beautifully curled in to send Wolves in 4-1 ahead at the break.
Wolves enjoyed the perfect start to the second half and made it 5-1 within a minute of the restart as Anslow latched onto Jade Cross’s ball to sail in a curling effort. Anslow completed her hat trick with another superb curling finish to put Wolves out of sight just ten minutes into the second half.
Wolves could have extended their lead when Jade Cross sent a lovely through ball to Hattie James in the box but her finish was scooped up by the keeper. Anslow added some more excitement with ten minutes to play as she drove in a tremendous strike to make it 7-1. Jade Cross gave Wolves their eighth late on with a tap in from close range after rounding the last Coundon defender to seal a solid afternoon before Kimberley Holden made it 9-1 with little time left to play.

Match Report
Wolves Women fell to a 90th-minute equaliser as they were forced to settle for a point against Leicester City Ladies in difficult weather conditions at Keys Park.
The hosts enjoyed an early spell of pressure but saw a corner cleared after Laura McQuilkin appeared to have been brought down unfairly on the edge of the box, but Leicester eventually cleared their lines. Jen Anslow delivered a fantastic ball into the box after beating her marker but Leicester keeper Amie Cattell managed to save the danger before the onrushing Hattie James arrived.
Leicester’s first chance came when Carmelina Colangelo managed to lob Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner, but fortunately her effort went well wide of the post. The weather conditions worked in Wolves’ favour on a blustery day in Hednesford, with a strong gust blowing towards the Leicester goal and helping Anslow hit the crossbar, direct from a corner.
Wolves took the lead with 20 minutes gone as Leicester struggled to deal with Wolves’ attacking play and the ball fell to James after a scramble in the box before she coolly poked home.
Leicester almost hit back soon afterwards when Erica Kilby unleashed a powerful shot against the wind from 25 yards out which looked like it might go in before sailing over the crossbar. After Anna Perks lost the ball in midfield, Colangelo almost too advantage and ran into the Wolves box but Dom Luke defended superbly at the last minute to clear the danger.
A good Wolves break saw James tee up Amber Quick after a good run on the right flank by Jade Cross, but her effort went over the bar.
Leicester restored parity against the run of play just past the half hour mark as Sarah Burbidge nodded towards goal. Wolves looked to have cleared to Gardner, but the assistant signalled the ball had crossed the line. The visitors could have doubled their lead when Burbidge latched onto a corner and headed inches over Gardner’s crossbar before Aleksandra Janicka’s shot called the Wolves keeper into action again soon after.
Wolves started the second half strongly and were almost rewarded with a goal when Jade Cross sent a fantastic looping cross to Jade Sailsman who fired at the side netting. In difficult weather conditions which worsened as the match progressed, Wolves coped with the wind and rain and were nearly back in front when Amber Quick cut the ball back to Sailsman but Leicester managed to clear their lines once more.
Wolves were denied what looked to be a certain penalty when Caroline Maslen cynically brought down substitute Kim Ratcliffe in the box but the referee waved play on. The hosts could have taken the lead again when Anslow delivered a fantastic corner into the box and Perks was on hand to nod goalbound but was denied by the Leicester back line.
Wolves restored their lead with eight minutes to play when Ratcliffe superbly latched onto a corner and headed home. She could have sealed it all up minutes later when she was played through on goal and had only the keeper to beat but her effort cannoned off the right-hand post.
But with 90 minutes gone, Wolves suffered a sucker punch after all their hard work in the second half as Janicka poked the ball home to give the visitors an unlikely point.

Match Report
Wolves were disappointed to exit the FA Cup at the hands of Long Eaton Ladies in a tricky away game in which they equalised twice, but were unable to complete the job.
Wolves started well but as they pushed for the first goal they were caught on the counter attack, with the Long Eaton striker Newton rounding the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net and put the hosts ahead. As the half went on Wolves kept pressing, but just couldn’t find the equaliser.
Two minutes into the second half though, Wolves found that goal from a Jen Anslow free kick. Despite the keeper getting to it, she couldn't stop it ending up in the back of the net to make it 1-1. Wolves were now putting Long Eaton under pressure, but were unable to capitalise.
They went behind again to a disputed penalty, when Amber Quick was adjudged to have handled the ball. The penalty was duly converted by ex-Doncaster Belles and England midfielder Precious Hamilton and Long Eaton once again took the lead.
The last 20 minutes saw Long Eaton defend and counter, as Wolves continued press. Wolves were eventually rewarded in the 82nd minute when Jade Cross coolly lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper to restore parity at 2-2.
Wolves then went looking for the winner, only to get caught on the break again with a long direct ball which their pacey forward latched onto. Precious Hamilton expertly dispatched the ball past Gardner, giving the home team the lead for the third time in the game. This time Wolves couldn’t muster up an equaliser and Long Eaton ran out 3-2 winners.
Manager Steve Cullis said: "It was a disappointing result. We dominated possession and the tempo of the game throughout. Long Eaton very rarely threatened our goal, but did look dangerous on the counter attack and caught us out. "Now we need to quickly turn our attention back to the league for a tough game this Sunday at home to Rotherham United."

Match Report
Wolves Women returned to winning ways as they came from behind to clinch a hard-fought three points against Rotherham United Ladies. Following their 3-2 defeat to Long Eaton United, Wolves bounced back with Amber Quick grabbing a brace and Hattie James also featuring on the scoresheet.
The first chance of the match came when Laura McQuilkin set up Jade Cross to tee up Hannah Johnson on the edge of the box, but her shot went wide. At the other end, Rotherham countered through Natalie Shaw but a last minute tackle from captain Anna Perks cleared the ball out for a corner.
Rotherham scored after just five minutes when Lianna Pargin latched onto Amy Pollock’s corner and easily nodded past Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner. The hosts pressed to find an equaliser and came close when a scramble in the box saw James have a shot blocked before a McQuilkin effort was well defended by a resilient Rotherham.
When Dom Luke was fouled, Perks sent in a free kick to Quick who galloped into the box but her poked shot was caught by Rotherham keeper Georgia Ward. Jen Anslow had another chance to restore parity for Wolves when she was allowed acres of space in the midfield and powered a shot on goal which went just wide from 30 yards out.
Wolves finally broke level after a period of sustained pressure in the first half when Johnson’s cross was deflected into the path of Quick who easily slotted home.
A fine start to the second half for Wolves followed when Quick ran into the box and picked up a loose ball before setting up James who slid a low shot into the net. Jade Cross had Megan Wilson fooled in the Rotherham box as she set up the onrushing McQuilkin but the Millers cleared their lines.
Following some more Wolves pressure from a corner, the ball fell to Luke whose lay-up and shot from outside the box was well palmed away by Ward. Jade Cross later sent a looping cross into the box, which the Millers failed to control, and let Richards get a headed effort goalwards, yet Ward easily collected.
Wolves missed from just a yard out when McQuilkin’s corner ball had the Millers’ back line caught out, causing Ward to palm the ball into the path of Natalie Widdall who somehow nodded over the bar. Perks had the chance to extend Wolves lead from another corner however her header went inches wide of the left-hand post.
Rotherham broke back against the run of play and were rewarded with an equaliser when Natalie Shaw beat the Wolves offside trap and lobbed home from long range.
The hosts fought to restore their lead and ultimately sealed the win five minutes from time following Quick’s cool finish in the box.
Quick confidently latched onto a deflected cross into the box and tapped home to wrap up an impressive win and keep the pressure on at the top of the Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One table.

Match Report
Wolves Women came from behind to seal an impressive win away at Sheffield side Steel City Wanderers.
The match got off to a poor start, with the game having to be moved to a 3G pitch because of the wet weather, and injuries forcing Wolves to play some players out of position. However, Wolves started well and had several clear-cut chances in the first half. Kim Holden found herself one-on-one with the keeper, but couldn’t make it count. Louise Price had a chance from close range but put the ball over the bar, while Jen Anslow hit the woodwork with a shot from distance.
Meanwhile Steel City Wanderers were playing counter-attacking football, but Wolves’ back three mopped up most of what came through. They were caught out in the 35th minute though, when the striker appeared to foul Wolves’ defender Emma Cross, and when nothing was given by the referee, she went on to score past Lucy Gardner in the Wolves goal to take the lead.
Wolves continued to press, and despite having an appeal for handball in the box turned down by the referee, their heads never dropped despite going in 1-0 down at the break.
The second half saw the visitors move up a gear, playing at pace and making their passes count. The extra pressure started to cause Steel City Wanderers to make silly mistakes, with Wolves winning numerous throw-ins and corners. Wolves were finally rewarded with an equaliser in the 76th minute, when Kim Holden got on the end of a through ball from Jade Cross and coolly slotted past the keeper to make it 1-1.
Just three minutes later Cross herself went through on goal after beating the defender to the ball, and confidently lobbed the advancing keeper to give Wolves the lead. Wolves were the better side in the second half and saw the game out to win 2-1.
Manager Steve Cullis said: “I was very proud of the players today, grabbing all three points in tough conditions. “They upped the pace in the second half, worked hard, and showed unity as a team.”

Match Report
Wolves Women put five goals past Leafield Athletic in their second meeting this season to confirm their place in the quarter finals of the Birmingham County FA Cup. In September, Wolves came out on top in a 4-1 win at Leafield in the league, with goals coming from Natalie Widdal, Anna Perks, Laura McQuilkin and Jen Anslow. Having set up the tie thanks to a 9-1 win away at Coundon Court in November, Wolves will now enter the quarter finals of the cup where they will face Coventry United Ladies at home.
The hosts started well, Hattie James and Sophie Richards executing a neat one-two which was cleared for a corner from which Leafield keeper Mel Williams saved after Laura McQuilkin’s shot curled dangerously towards goal. McQuilkin then tried to tee up Amber Quick but Stacey Davis deflected the ball out for a corner which Jen Anslow delivered in. However, McQuilkin’s dipping effort on the edge of the 18-yard box went just over the bar.
Louise Price did well on the wing to send a low rolling ball into the path of Quick which eventually found Anslow, but she shot straight at Williams. Jade Cross did well to beat her marker on the right flank yet her looping ball into the box evaded the Wolves front line and was eventually cleared.
Wolves conceded a free kick 17 minutes in when McQuilkin fell to the ground and wrestled to keep the ball with her feet, but former Wolves player Jade Hewitt smashed the ball into the stand from 25 yards out. McQuilkin quickly redeemed herself as she won possession on the halfway line to run into the Leafield half and unleash a fierce shot that forced Williams into a fine diving save.
The hosts’ dominance paid off as James gave Wolves the lead in style after 23 minutes with a stunning shot from outside the box that had Williams well beaten. James could have made it 2-0 moments later when she latched onto Emma Cross’ lay-off in the box, but her low shot was well blocked. Anslow made easy work of doubling Wolves’ advantage soon after when she curled home from the corner of the box.
Kimberley Holden filled in between the sticks for the first half with Lucy Gardner missing the game due to illness but she could not stop Leafield pulling themselves back into the game as Charlotte Hughes scored from a free kick. Wolves appealed for a penalty on the stroke of half time when James was wrestled to the ground though the referee waved away the appeals.
The home side got the second half off to the perfect start when Anslow galloped through midfield unopposed and set up Quick to fire home from long-range. Price filled in in goal for the second half and she was caught out soon after when Hughes scored her second free kick of the afternoon.
Wolves restored their two-goal cushion when Nat Widdall fired through a mass of Leafield defenders just before the hour mark. Anslow could have made it 5-2 with a free kick almost from the halfway line but her effort went just wide of the right-hand post.
Jade Cross extended Wolves’ lead with a fine solo effort after she was played in past the Leafield back line. Cross forced Williams into a terrific diving save moments later when, under pressure from her marker, she flicked in a fierce shot on goal.
A late scare for Wolves came when Hughes linked up with Sam White to fire on goal but Price managed to scoop her effort up. Hughes had the chance to seal a hat trick of goals from free kicks but her effort was cleared by the hosts.
Manager Steve Cullis said: "It's always difficult not having a recognized keeper, it was a problem for us which we tried to address. “Credit to Leafield they did make it difficult in the first half because they're quite an attacking unit. "I always set my team out to attack and play exciting and expansive football so our first thought is can we attack? “We did that stop start in the first half and we could have been more effective in wide areas.
"We've got real strength in depth with our attacking players, with Hannah Johnson coming off the bench making an impact and Jess Davis is making a really positive impact as well. "When we come to our home pitch we want to put a show on for the fans, we want to make the games as exciting as possible and we want our players to enjoy their football. “The better they enjoy it, the better we play and more effective we are."

Lucy Gardner collects under pressure for a couple of
Coventry forwards
12 page issue - 210 x 145 in size - cost - free
Wolves Women were well beaten by Coventry United Ladies in the quarter finals of the Birmingham County FA Cup. Wolves, playing their first match for three weeks after bad weather forced two games to be called off, came undone in a second half which saw United take control.
Coventry United, previously Coventry City Ladies before their 9-year association with Coventry City ended last year, called Wolves into action early on when Alison Hall worked her way onto Amber Hughes’ chipped delivery but goalkeeper Lucy Gardner easily collected the ball. Hughes then got the better of Jen Anslow, who had dropped deep, and delivered a ball into Marie Gauntlett, but her drilled low effort was caught by Gardner.
After a pinpoint Hughes cross, Wolves captain Anna Perks put in a superb challenge at the far post
to keep the game goalless, which left Hall dazed. Coventry were almost rewarded with the game’s opener when Anna Wilcox crossed to Hughes who unleashed a shot from the 18-yard line, but her effort went inches wide of the post.
Wolves’ first chance came on the half-hour mark when Kimberley Holden drove from 25-yards out but Hattie James could not latch onto her off-target shot. The game opened up when Dom Luke set up Jess Davies leaving Coventry just about able to clear while at the other end, Gauntlett played Jade Brook on goal but her effort failed to cause Wolves a problem.
The visitors took the lead just before half time on a freezing cold afternoon at Keys Park, when Gardner palmed away a deep free kick and Cristina Torkildsen was on hand to neatly tap in from close range at the far post.
Coventry came out strong after the break and almost enjoyed the perfect start to the second half when Gauntlett set up Dermody but she volleyed an effort well wide of the post. Hall doubled the visitors’ lead when she latched onto a whipped ball into the box by Nikki Miles and made no mistake from close range.
It went from bad to worse for Wolves moments later as the hosts were caught out at the back and Dermody was allowed through to scramble home almost level with the goal line. Coventry United, who currently lie in fourth place in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division table, extended their lead when Hughes laid the ball onto Sammi Ryder in the middle of the box and she tapped in from just a few yards out.
James could have set up a late Wolves consolation from the tightest of angles, but her lobbed shot from distance was caught by Coventry goalkeeper Susan Wood.
Wolves Women manager Steve Cullis said: “It’s a disappointing result - Coventry United played well and deserved it today. “For me there’s a lot more positives out of the game than what people might think. “The players, credit to them, gave it their all until the end.
“If you look at our back four, they have been pretty consistent throughout the season but it’s just one of those days where Coventry were better across the pitch overall. “It was always going to be tough for Anna Perks and Nat Widdall but as a collective and as a group we did not do enough.
“I am disappointed but I am not going to be blaming any player but we just weren’t good enough. “The big thing for me was the speed at which Coventry played. “Having quite a stop-start season has not helped and going into the game with that mantra was difficult.”

Match Report
Wolves lost only their second league game of the season in a tough game in difficult conditions away at Leicester City Ladies.
The first half saw them playing against the wind, and Leicester made the most of it, as a left-footed in-swinger from Kyleigh Brant put the hosts ahead after 15 minutes. Wolves responded just two minutes later when captain Anna Perks headed home from a Jen Anslow corner to make it 1-1.
Wolves continued to battle against the wind as conditions worsened, and Leicester took the lead again just before the break as Erica Kilby's wind-assisted strike from the edge of the 18 yard box ended up in the back of the net. Wolves were able to take advantage of the wind in the second half, and in the 59th minute Perks was on the scoresheet again from another corner, thundering a bullet header past the keeper to draw level for a second time.
But Wolves were undone again when Leicester were awarded a corner and Kilby scored her second of the game to make it 3-2. Wolves pushed forward to try and get something out of the game, but Leicester hit them on the counter attack, as Rebekah Preston scored in the 92nd minute.
Manager Steve Cullis said: "The scoreline doesn't reflect our efforts. The players gave it their all in the second half, hitting the crossbar on four separate occasions, but it just wasn't meant to be. Goals will come."

Match Report
Wolves Women suffered defeat by top-of-the-table Leicester City WFC in a five-goal thriller at the Riverside Football Ground. Leicester, who have played six games more than Wolves and have a 22-point lead at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One table, came from behind to win after Wolves missed a penalty just before half time. It was a disappointing defeat for Wolves, who could have gone in at the break with a 3-1 lead, having played some fine attacking football which had the hosts pegged back in their own half of the pitch.
The Foxes started strongly and almost broke the deadlock within four minutes when Gabby Reid tried a chip in on goal but her shot went just wide of the mark and Wolves recovered. The hosts took the lead two minutes later when Lauren Bartle’s free-kick found the head of Lauren Impey who nodded in the rebound after he initial effort came back off the crossbar.
Wolves were given a huge let-off after a quarter of an hour when captain Anna Perks blocked a goalbound shot from Helen Busby and Rosie Axten fired over from the rebound. Laura McQuilkin had Wolves’ first shot of the game on 24 minutes with a superb dipping lob, but Leicester keeper Ellie Palmer tipped it over the bar.
Wolves levelled in bizarre circumstances when Jen Anslow looked to have scored straight from a corner, yet the ball deflected home off Natalie Widdal. The visitors could have been 2-1 up soon after, a strong spell of play for Steve Cullis’ side seeing the ball drop to McQuilkin who drove on goal, before seeing her shot blocked by Bartle. However, from the corner that followed, Anslow curled into the box and Perks tapped home from close-range in a goalmouth scramble.
With their tails up, another Anslow corner followed and it could have been the same old story for 3-1 but Perks narrowly fired just over the bar. Bartle almost levelled just before the break yet Perks’ fine first half continued with yet another block to stop what would have been a certain equaliser.
Wolves were awarded a penalty on 43 minutes when Anslow was cynically fouled by Kayleigh Hiller in the box. However, Hattie James fired her spot kick high over the bar. Leicester made Wolves pay for their penalty miss just moments later and levelled when Axten fired low from inside the box right on the stroke of half time.
Things got worse for the visitors after the break as Leicester took the lead when Chantelle Robinson picked up the ball on the left-wing and ran on goal before curling home from 20 yards out. Anslow nearly restored parity for Wolves again with a superb volley from an acute angle inside the area but she hit the post and Leicester recovered possession.
The hosts had the ball in the net again on 66 minutes when Helen Busby shot from close range and the linesman flagged for offside. Wolves defended well during a flurry of Leicester activity in the away box in the latter stages which could have led to the hosts further extending their lead, but Lucy Gardner and the visiting back line stuck to their task and managed to clear the danger.
Manager Steve Cullis said: “If we had scored that penalty, I think it would have put a lot more pressure on Leicester and really tested their resolve, but it wasn’t to be. “Overall our performance warranted at least a point but credit to Leicester I think they came out a little bit sharper in the second half and quality prevailed eventually.
“One of the problems we’ve had in the last few games is that we haven’t got out the blocks quick enough in the first half and I really stressed the importance of that to the players and today we did. “It’s about us kicking on now and knowing that we can perform at this level with the intensity from the first half but make sure it carries on for the duration of the game.”

Match Report
Wolves Women were forced to settle for a draw against Radcliffe Olympic thanks to a controversial second-half penalty. In a first half of few real chances, Wolves took the lead after just seven minutes and dominated much of the play for the first 75 minutes. But Radcliffe, who have played six more games than Wolves and lie in second place in the FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One table, grabbed a late point from the spot.
Wolves went ahead early on thanks to some superb work from Jen Anslow who whipped in a ball from the left-wing for Kimberley Holden to make no mistake from close range. The visitors countered as Rania Ramadan tried to force a quick equaliser with a curling shot from just outside the box but Wolves keeper Lucy Gardner was on hand to save.
Wolves captain Anna Perks then blocked another Ramadan shot into the path of Danielle Saulter, but the hosts cleared their lines before she could work the ball out to the wing. Hattie James did well to control a wayward ball and volley from outside the box but Radcliffe keeper Sophie Turner claimed.
The visitors then came close to equalising when Nat Robinson sent a corner in to Saulter who headed wide towards the far corner but Wolves did well to preserve their lead. The home back line kept Radcliffe well pegged back, with Saulter’s speculative shot from 40 yards out summing up the visitors’ first half.
Wolves continued to look comfortable after the break and had ample opportunity to double their advantage as Anslow delivered a terrific corner kick into Perks who nodded just wide before Anslow shot just off target from long range. Saulter tried her luck again soon after, this time with a shot from an acute angle, but Gardner pulled off a magnificent diving save to quell any danger of an equaliser.
Wolves lived dangerously for a spell on the hour-mark and needed Gardner to tip over Kim Hartford’s long-range drive before she almost netted again straight from a corner moments later. Anslow continued an impressive display as she came close to finding Wolves’ second, firstly through a whipped free kick which tested Turner and later from a long-range drive which went narrowly wide once more. Wolves missed a huge chance to put the game to bed on 70 minutes when Anslow teed up Jade Cross but her finish slipped past the wrong side of the post.
The game changed late on as Radcliffe were awarded a penalty when Natalie Widdal was judged to have handled and Beth Bailey scored from the spot. The visitors could have nicked an unlikely three points right at the death when Danielle Saulter laid the ball to Alex Saulter but, fortunately for Wolves, she fired wide.
Wolves Women assistant manager and captain Anna Perks said: “I was very disappointed to concede the penalty at the end, which we think is a harsh decision because it’s rolled off our defender’s leg. “It did make contact with her arm but it wasn’t intentional. “Radcliffe are a good side and at least we didn’t give them the three points because it’s tight between us and them and we want to get second place.
“We played as tight together as we could despite the pitch being big which meant our wingers had to work hard but we limited their chances. “Now that Leicester have won the league, we want to finish second. “There are some tough games to come but we’ve just got to take them one at a time.”

Wolves Women lost in a five-goal thriller at Keys Park despite a terrific performance against Birmingham & West Midlands Ladies. In a game with a terrific atmosphere, thanks in no small part to the presence of the Swedish Wolves Supporters Club, Wolves came undone despite a valiant display.
The hosts got off to a fine start as Kimberley Holden found acres of space 30 yards out and unleashed a fierce dipping shot which sailed narrowly over the bar. Louise Price tried her luck from outside the box but visiting keeper Charlotte Fisher caught her effort.
Emily Painter nodded the ball across the box to Justine Buckmire who then smashed a shot well wide of the mark. Gemma Mooney launched a free kick from 40 yards out but versatile Wolves keeper Chloe Evans, playing on her senior debut and filling in for Lucy Gardner who has broken a bone in her foot, easily saved.
The hosts went a goal down 13 minutes in when Buckmire worked her way on to the end of a goalmouth scramble and poked home following a corner. The game turned as McQuilkin fired wide from long range on the half-hour mark before Holden tried again soon after and missed by centimetres.
Wolves debutant Chloe Evans
Jen Anslow shot from outside the box once more moments later in a period of sustained Wolves pressure but she could not find the back of the net. Jade Cross then tipped a clever ball across the park to Jess Davis however her shot failed to trouble Fisher as it went out for a goal kick.
The visitors could have doubled their advantage after Painter and Buckmire combined again, but the latter somehow fired over the bar when one-on-one with Evans. Wolves were rewarded with an equaliser right on the stroke of half time with a long ball catching the Birmingham and West Midlands back line unawares, and leaving Jade Cross to tap in a stylish solo goal.

There was time for another Wolves attack before the break when Anslow chipped over to Jade Cross, who beat the offside trap perfectly, but Annie Pritchard headed her lobbed shot off the line, onto the bar and into the hands of Fisher.
Following the restart, Mooney put Birmingham and West Midlands ahead once more with a terrific free kick from the edge of the 18-yard line. Wolves were given another let off soon after as Maimee Morris played an unmarked Painter through to somehow fire over from close range.
The hosts came close to equalising again when Anslow played Davis through on the wing to pass to Cross, but her attempt at a bicycle kick went straight into Fisher’s hands. Despite late efforts from Holden and Davis, Birmingham and West Midlands sealed a third goal thanks to Mooney’s terrific shot from an acute angle. Jade Cross found another for Wolves almost straight from the restart when she played the ball around Fisher yet again and tapped in from close range but the hosts ran out of time to find another equaliser despite a fine performance throughout the game.
Wolves Women’s matchday operations manager Brian Churm said: “We had five players out and our keeper has broken a bone in her foot, a couple of central midfielders and central defenders were out and it was noticeable. “In the last two games we’ve let five goals in, and four of those have come from set pieces. “Their third goal today was a wonder goal, nobody could have kept that out so I think we were very unfortunate to lose.
“Chloe’s been with us since the U12s and originally came to us as a keeper. “Since then she’s moved up top, been in defence and now she’s in midfield. “She’s gone back to keeper in the U18s because of an injury to their goalkeeper, so coming into us she knows how it works and knows the role.”

Match Report
Wolves Women impressed under floodlights at Hednesford Town in a 6-1 win over Leafield, dominating the game with slick passing and movement and a hat-trick from Jade Cross.
Wolves started well, putting Leafield under pressure right from the start with a barrage of shots. The breakthrough came when Wolves were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute and Jen Anslow coolly slotted home to get the hosts of the mark. Just two minutes later Jade Cross doubled the score, lobbing the keeper from just inside the area to make it 2-0.
Then in the 19th minute, Jade Sailsman made it three, heading home from a Jen Anslow corner. Wolves continued to press with Leafield having few chances and any efforts on goal being dealt with by keeper Chloe Evans. At the other end, Anslow, Cross and Quick all came close but the half finished with Wolves 3-0 up.
Leafield kicked off the second half and were straight on the attack. A Donna Arrowsmith shot was deflected off Perks, sending Wolves keeper Evans in the wrong direction. She got back, but couldn't collect the ball cleanly and it trickled into the net to give the visitors a goal. Wolves were quick to fight back with Dom Luke and Jade Cross both coming close before Amber Quick chested in a great cross from Sailsman to make it 4-1 to Wolves.
Wolves kept up the pressure and Perks had the ball in the net in the 70th minute but it was disallowed by the referee. Eventually the pressure paid off and in the 85th minute Jade Cross made some space for herself right in front of goal and hit the ball hard over the keeper for her second and Wolves' fifth. Her hat-trick goal came just three minutes later as she curled the ball from 25 yards into the top right- hand corner of the net, giving the keeper no chance and making the final tally 6-1 to Wolves.
Manager Steve Cullis said: "After Sunday's defeat I'm so pleased to see us getting back to winning ways. "There were some outstanding individual performances but more importantly it was a solid team performance. "There's plenty to build on there for our next game away to Peterborough Northern Star on Sunday 10th April."

Match Report
Wolves Women battled hard and got their rewards with a stoppage time winner in a hard-fought game away at relegation-threatened Peterborough Northern Star. With winger Jen Anslow ruled out before kick-off due to illness, Manager Steve Cullis was forced into a late change of system, losing some of the team’s threat going forward. However, the players adapted well and the early part of the game saw them keeping possession well.
Their build-up play was good and precise, but lacking the quality in the final third to really hurt Peterborough. This gave the home side a chance to come into the game and they starting pressing Wolves hard, almost capitalising from a Katie Steward corner, but Chloe Evans made the save. In the 23rd minute Wolves finally got the breakthrough, with Jade Cross beating the offside trap and coolly slotting under the advancing Peterborough keeper to give Wolves the lead.
For the remainder of the half the game was end-to-end, with Laura McQuilkin and Amber Quick both coming close, but Wolves were unable to capitalise on their lead. Peterborough tested Wolves’ defence with a number of set pieces, but they held firm, including an excellent save by Evans in the Wolves goal.
The second half began with Peterborough continuing to press, and in the 58th minute they got the equaliser they deserved, as Cassie Steward raced onto an Eleanor Boothman through pass to make it 1-1. With Wolves pushing for a second place finish and Star fighting relegation, both teams were desperate to clinch all three points, and both keepers were kept busy, with Evans making some excellent one-on-one saves.
With five minutes to go Cullis brought on substitute Jess Davis and her pace and power had an immediate impact against the tiring legs of Peterborough. As the game moved into stoppage time, Davis picked up the ball in the Wolves half, beat two defenders and managed to find Jade Cross on the edge of the box. Cross found herself some space and her pinpoint strike beat the keeper in dramatic fashion, securing all three points for Wolves.
Manager Cullis said: “Today I saw a resilient Wolves Women performance. For the majority of the game Peterborough made it very difficult, but as a team we never let our heads drop and we kept competing for the duration of the game. “I thought Chloe Evans was fantastic between the sticks today and Anna Lock produced her best performance of the season.
“Jade Cross has been in tremendous form of late, scoring seven goals in the last three games and has provided a real cutting edge to our play. “I said to the players if we are going to compete for titles we need to learn how to win games when playing poorly, and today we did that."

Match Report
Wolves fought back from a goal down to clinch an impressive away win at Birmingham & West Midlands Ladies’ Shenley Lane Ground in Northfield.
The first half was end to end, with both teams keen to make their mark, but cancelling each other out in their efforts. As the game went on Wolves started to threaten the Birmingham goal more, putting the defence under pressure. The best chance of the half fell to Jade Cross who beat the offside trap, opened up her body and aimed to slot past the on-rushing keeper, but she narrowly missed the target.
Birmingham & West Midlands were making it very difficult for Wolves and the half finished goalless. Wolves Manager Steve Cullis made a tactical change at the break, bringing on Laura McQuilkin to give Wolves more of a cutting edge in the final third.
The pattern of the game was similar to the first half, with Birmingham staying compact and frustrating Wolves. In the 60th minute the home side broke the deadlock against the run of play, as Gemma Mooney’s precise free kick made it 1-0 to Birmingham & West Midlands. To get something out of the game, Wolves made another change, bringing on Jade Sailsman to add some extra width and pace and push for the equaliser.
They were rewarded in the 70th minute when Jess Davis picked out Jade Cross who this time made no mistake at beating the keeper to make it 1-1. As the game moved into the final 10 minutes, Cullis brought on an extra attacker in Kim Holden and changed the system to go for the winner. With just 5 minutes to go Jade Cross beat the left full back and delivered a dangerous ball across the box where substitute Jade Sailsman netted the winner to snatch all 3 points.
Cullis said: “Today the team showed great character to come from a goal behind to secure the points. Even though we weren’t at our best, we were still able to grind out a result. “I’m very proud of the team today. The development they’ve made this season is unbelievable and should excite everyone involved in the club. “We have a good supply of younger players and positive team spirit, which will be vital if we are going to challenge for the title next season”.

Wolves clinched a vital 3 points against local rivals Solihull Ladies in their bid for a second place league finish. With both teams near the top of the table and Solihull playing their final game of the season, the pressure was on from the outset.
Wolves took control early on and it took just 3 minutes for Amber Quick to make the breakthrough. She made a clever run beyond Jade Cross to latch onto her inch- perfect through ball and neatly slot under the Solihull keeper with a left foot finish to put the visitors ahead.
After taking the lead Wolves looked the more likely to grab the second, and had an excellent chance to do so mid-way through the half. Jade Cross used her pace to get beyond the centre backs, only for the ball to bobble just as she was about to strike, allowing the keeper to gather comfortably. Wolves had another chance to extend their lead when clever combination play on the edge of the box ran nicely to Quick, who hit a strike goal-wards, but the keeper claimed on the second attempt. As half time approached both teams were cancelling each other out and Wolves went in ahead.
The second half saw Solihull come out with a fighting mentality, looking to break down a stubborn Wolves defence, but Wolves were keen to capitalise on their lead and really show their quality in possession. With both teams pushing hard the game became stretched, with both keepers now being kept busy.
Solihull had their best chance of the game when Wolves’ Dom Luke missed her first challenge on the edge of the box leaving the striker through on goal. She rounded keeper Evans, but Evans managed to narrow the angle, and somehow Luke’s last ditch challenge saved what would have been a certain goal.
Following that scare Wolves pushed on and Jen Anslow’s pinpoint cross was nodded in by Quick to grab her second and make it 2-0 to Wolves. Solihull made it very difficult in the latter stages of the game, with numerous chances, but Wolves defended well and secured a well-deserved 3 points.
Manager Steve Cuillis said: “Today was another opportunity to show our quality against top opposition. I think from start to finish we were the dominate team and thoroughly deserved the win. “The team showed a real togetherness and desire to represent Wolves, which was evident with Dom Luke and Chloe Evans denying what would have been a certain goal. That kind of attitude wins games and more importantly wins titles.
“The back four were excellent today. They gave very little away to the strikers and made it very difficult for them to create any chances. We were solid, organised and disciplined. “We hope this good run of form can continue to the end of the season and give us a real platform to build on for next season.”

Match Report
Wolves Women sealed a fifth successive victory in the FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One as they won away at Radcliffe Olympic. In a fine team performance in freezing cold torrential rain, Wolves took control in the first half thanks to an Amber Quick double. A late Jen Anslow goal sealed the points and ensured Wolves bounced back from the disappointing 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Keys Park in March.
The visitors had the first chance of the game when Gina Shaw curled in a free kick from deep in the Wolves half straight at keeper Chloe Evans. Wolves took the lead when Jade Cross teed up the onrushing Amber Quick to easily slot in a header at the far post which evaded Radcliffe keeper Sophie Turner.
The visitors almost doubled their lead soon after as Anslow won a corner following a jinking run down the wing but Anna Perks’ header was blocked. Radcliffe almost put the ball in their own net as they struggled to deal with Nat Widdal’s effort in the box but they managed to clear their lines when she nodded just wide on the rebound.
Wolves doubled their lead in style as captain Anna Perks launched a long ball from the defence to Jess Davis on the wing who teed up Quick to fire in from close range. Nat Robinson could have got the hosts back in it after the break as she fired in a dangerous free kick that tested Wolves keeper Evans.
The conditions worsened as the game professed but Radcliffe had another chance to nick a goal when Rania Ramadan fired over from close range. Wolves were controversially denied a perfect chance to extend their lead when Jade Sailsman played Jade Cross through to score but the lineman put his flag up for offside.
Anslow was unfortunate not to score from a free kick on midway into the Radcliffe half however host keeper Turner parried her effort away. But she put the game to bed with a terrific free kick from 40 yards out to seal yet another league victory.
Women Women manager Steve Cullis: “We came away from one of our top rivals in the league and gained three points. Overall the performance warranted the win. “The team spirit was excellent and the togetherness was really evident. If you’re going to compete at the top level of the league you need clean sheets.
“With Chloe Evans coming into the senior game quite late in the season, she’s done fantastically well. Defensively as a team we’ve been better, we’ve been quite disciplined and better off the ball and that showed against tough opposition. “The conditions worsened as the game went on but we’ve got players who are adaptable, they tried to use the conditions to their advantage. “There’s no reason why we can’t go into the Leicester game not full of confidence on the back of five straight wins and two clean sheets. We were unlucky not to come away with a point last time we played Leicester and I think Sunday is going to be a really good contest.”

Match Report
Wolves Women suffered a heartbreaking end to a match which almost saw them end Leicester City WFC’s 100% league record. In Leicester’s last game of the season, the Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One champions were chasing one more win to maintain their perfect record on the same day Leicester’s men’s team chased the Premier League title against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Despite Laura McQuilkin’s goal cancelling out Holly Morgan’s opener, Helen Busby scored late on to end Wolves’ five-game unbeaten run.
With Leicester men’s team going a goal down to Anthony Martial early on, 75 miles away at Keys Park, the crowd were forced to wait until 29th minute for the first clear-cut chance on goal. Jen Anslow delivered a fine ball into the box from a free kick but Wolves couldn’t penetrate the Leicester defence to take the lead.
Anslow tried her luck again from another free kick and Lauren Impey was fortunate not to put the ball into her own net when she attempted a clearance. Wolves were unlucky not to take the lead just after the half-hour mark when a defensive mix-up from Chan Robinson allowed Jade Cross to shoot before McQuilkin hit the bar on the rebound.
However, against the run of play, Leicester took the lead right on the stroke of half time when Holly Morgan headed home a corner. After the break, Anslow fired yet another free kick goalbound but visiting keeper Scarlet Field easily collected the ball. Wolves captain Anna Perks almost gifted Leicester a second when she mistakenly passed straight to Helen Busby, but keeper Chloe Evans did well to clear her fierce effort.
The visitors kept pressing and almost doubled their advantage when Lauren Bartle hit the bar from a corner. Wolves finally found a deserved equaliser when Leicester failed to clear their lines and the unmarked McQuilkin had all the time and space in the world to fire home. But it was heartbreak for Wolves as Leicester, once again against the run of play, worked the ball to Busby who scored from close range with mere minutes to spare.

Match Report
Wolves Women secured second place in the FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One table as they thrashed Steel City Wanderers in their penultimate game of the season. In a lively first half on a beautifully warm summer’s day, there were six goals scored, including a 28-minute Jade Cross hat-trick, as well as two drinks breaks.
Jade Cross missed a golden chance to put Wolves ahead in the opening five minutes when she fired wide of the mark following an excellent long ball from Jess Davis. The hosts took the lead shortly afterwards when Cross worked on to Amber Quick’s delivery to lob the keeper from the edge of the box.
Wolves kept up the pressure and were almost rewarded with an immediate second goal as Jen Anslow’s corner was met by the head of captain Anna Perks but Steel City keeper Jess Holdsworth saved. Jade Cross scored her second when she was pushed over in the box and doubled Wolves’ lead from the spot. Wolves scored again following an unusual water break due to the heat, when Hattie James poked in from close range almost unopposed.
Jade Cross completed her hat trick within 28 minutes as she linked up with Quick to fire in a superb goal that cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar. The visitors nicked a goal back through Jen Pearson soon after but Jess Davis re-established the hosts’ four-goal cushion before the break with a neat finish at the far post. Steel City goalscorer Pearson almost found a second soon after the restart when she picked up the ball on the edge of the box and shot wide of the far post.
Jade Cross fired in her fourth of the afternoon 12 minutes into the second half thanks to a clever Davis pass in the box. Substitute Louise Price almost scored a superb long range drive but the ball dipped just over the crossbar. Wolves’ superb performance could have rewarded yet another fantastic team goal as Anslow teed up Jade Cross before the ball broke to Price who somehow missed the target from a yard out. Anslow tried to make amends from a free kick 40 yards out but she struck well over the bar, however, Kimberley Holden made it seven from close range late on.
Wolves Women manager Steve Cullis said: “It was on our shoulders to put in a performance in front of a big crowd. “We knew we had to come out of this game with a win and we wanted to entertain like we have done for every home game. “Jade has shown the development she has made this year and she had a difficult start to the season because we couldn’t pinpoint down a position for her. “The development of the whole squad is immense from where we started against Solihull to where we are now.”

Match Report
Wolves Women sealed a point against Peterborough Northern Star thanks to a 93rd-minute Anna Perks goal which also relegated their opponents. In the last match of the Women’s Premier League Division One Midlands, bottom of the table Peterborough Northern Star needed to win to avoid relegation. Despite Sofia Aragosa’s 87th-minute free kick looking to have kept Peterborough up, Wolves battled hard in an edgy finale to rescue a point through captain Perks’ header.
A tense afternoon was summed up early on as Jen Anslow required treatment for a bloodied nose when she was hit by the ball following a Peterborough clearance. Wolves worked the ball on the right wing and could have taken the lead when Jade Cross teed up the onrushing Louise Price, but her cross proved to be just too strong.
Moments later, Sophie Richards found possession and was one on-one with Peterborough keeper Sarah Hudson who scooped up her effort before she could get another foot to it. Price and Cross linked up again and could have put Wolves ahead but Hudson came to collect Cross’s shot.
Wolves Women’s player of the year Natalie Widdal latched on to Perks’ header from Anslow’s corner to prod at goal yet she missed from a yard out. Wolves keeper Chloe Evans pulled off a terrific save to keep out Vicky Gallagher’s pinpoint free kick before saving a point blank effort from a corner moments later
In a nervy second half, Peterborough defended well and despite chances being scarce, the visitors pressed and could have found a breakthrough when it needed a fine Widdal challenge to deny Chanade Henderson a route into the box Wolves almost broke the deadlock when Dom Luke crossed looking for Laura McQuilkin but the ball evaded her from close range.
Another tremendous save from Evans was required when Cassie Steward unleashed a fierce shot with fifteen minutes to play before Henderson fired over soon after. Jade Cross came agonisingly close to stealing three points for Wolves when she latched on to a Kim Holden ball to shoot straight at the keeper before Steward tried her luck again at the other end and forced yet another fine save from Evans.
Peterborough’s luck seemed to have run out late on but then Sofia Aragosa struck with a free kick with three minutes of normal time to play. However, Wolves sealed a point and consigned Peterborough to the drop when Perks headed home Anslow’s late free kick into the box.
Wolves Women boss Steve Cullis said: “The end of the season was an opportunity for us to reflect on what we’ve done and how we have developed. “For Peterborough it was a massive game to play for and we didn’t go any higher in the league but I still motivated the players to go out and get a result.
“When we played Peterborough away it was tough so we were under no illusions how hard the game was going to be but it was a lot harder than I had even anticipated. It would have been easy in the last few minutes to just coast and take the 1-0 loss but this group of players are not like that - we’ve got a lot of heart and desire and they want to be successful. We want to be truthful to our second place position and push on for next season to be league champions.”
