WOLVES IN DETAIL
Godfrey Phillips was initially a cigar manufacturer established in Aldgate, London in 1844, the company later evolving into one producing all types of tobacco products.
Their products were sold through the United Kingdom whilst they branched out to the Indian sub-continent in the 1930’s opening a manufacturing facility in India in 1967. In more recent times their products have been aimed chiefly at the Asian market after they were acquired by Modi Enterprises in 2011.
1920's - League Colours (Silks) - BDV Cigarettes

Issued in the early 1920’s in packets of their BDV cigarettes, these were silk images of the clubs colours at the time. With 90 known silks issued there were a number of Rugby League clubs included within the series.

1920's - Pinnace Cards

The Pinnace cards were first issue in the summer of 1920 and covered all clubs in the three English Divisions and the single Scottish Division. Also included were a number of Rugby players with the first issues having an oval back to them Additions to the series were added for the following three seasons with the eventual number of cards issued being 2462. In the latter years the backs went from oval to a rectangular.
The cards were approximately 44mm x 35mm in size whilst team photographs at 150mm x 100mm in size were also issued. These are very rare.
There were 22 Wolves player cards issued plus team group for the 1920-21 season, although there were actually 23 player cards due to the error made on the initial issue for the Jack Price as it initially listed him as B Price.
I have collected 20 cards at present with those still needed being 107 - S Fazackerlay, 1902 - G Getgood and the 1920-21 team group.
A fuller history of the Pinnace card collection can be read here
