WOLVES IN DETAIL
Tonibell were part of the Lyons Maid ice-cream business when they produced cards. They produced cards over a four year period from 1969 through to 1973. The cards themselves were issued with the World Soccer Magazine presumably as promotional material for the ice creams.
1969 - England Soccer Stars
This was a series of a dozen cards featuring England Internationals which was probably aimed at the following years World Cup in Mexico. No Wolves players were part of the collection.
1971 - Team of All Time
A set of 36 cards which unusually were circular and produced on thickish card. The cards were all of English players dating from the 1950's up to the date of issue. Unsurprisingly there was a heavy bias towards the World Cup winning team of 1966 within the series who's cards were XXmm in diameter. Two Wolves players featured as shown below.
1972-73 - 1st Division Football Club Badges
This was actually the third and final series of cards which had been produced the previous season under differing names. These hexagonal cards 65mm x 55mm in size captured the club badges of all 22 first division teams plus both England and Wales taking the set to 24 cards for the 1972-73 season.
The other two sets were both issued the previous season with the Lord Neilson and Mister Softee names on the rear. - the Tonibell and Mr Softee cards are shown below.
